Fostering

We are always looking for suitable fosterers to care for our animals in need.

Why foster?

Every year, millions of animals enter shelters, and many never make it out. Fostering gives a rescue dog a second chance at life in a safe, loving environment while they wait for adoption.

Benefits of fostering:

  • Save lives by reducing shelter overcrowding

  • Help a dog or cat adjust and become more adoptable

  • Experience the joy of companionship—without a long-term commitment

Testimonial from one of our amazing fosterers:

‘I have been a dog fosterer for The Yorkshire Rescue for a year and in that time I have fostered 5 dogs. During that time I have been listened to, trusted and received ongoing support and when I needed support in a difficult situation the support was immediate

Having previously fostered for another charity, what makes The Yorkshire Rescue a good fit for me and I believe dogs is that I am able to have contact with the dogs previous owners if that is possible, thereby getting to know the dogs needs, habits, routine etc so that I can provide the best possible experience for the dog

As a fosterer I also introduce the dog to prospective adopters, sharing information and ensuring it's a good fit for the dog and adopter. I then make myself available to provide any support to the adopter answering questions and reassurance and in return I receive videos and pictures of the dog settling into a happy life

I often get asked how I can part with the dogs I undoubtedly love and the answer is I am always upset for a while but I am comforted with the knowledge that they are going onto happy, loving lives

I am always happy to talk to anyone interested in exploring being a fostered with The Yorkshire Rescue'
