Freya

Saarloos Wolfdog

6 years old

Female

Meet our prettiest girl, Freya! This lovely pup has come to us due to an owner change of circumstances meaning that they no longer have time to provide her the care that she needs. Freya has been a very much loved girl and we are looking for a family to love her just as much.

Freya is a very special girl, she’s a Sarloos Wolfdog which means she’s part German Shepherd and part wolf! This is a very unique breed which has equally unique breed traits and needs. Being part wolf these dogs are incredibly intelligent (Freya for example can open doors!), they are also naturally independent & aloof though they bond deeply to their ‘pack’ (once she decides you’re her person she’ll be very loyal and loving!). She’s a big girl (around the size of a large shepherd) which means all the more Freya to love.

Freya is generally a very well trained girl. She’s impeccably behaved within the household, does a very keen sit & paw (especially if treats are on offer!) and she’s good being left for short periods. She’s good on lead but can be a little strong due to her size so needs a confident handler. Currently she lives very rurally and would be well suited to a rural environment or farm, she’s not a city girl.

Unfortunately Freya was born a few months before the first Covid lockdown so while she had lots of initial puppy socialisation she wasn’t able to continue this as much as needed. She is generally a well trained girl but can be a little anxious of new people & dogs - she does like playing with other big dogs once she gets to know then but due to her size she can be a bit too bouncy to play with little dogs.

Freya has was raised with a cat but hasn’t lived with one in a couple of years and she does have a bit of a prey drive so we wouldn’t be looking to home her with small furries now. She is looking for a child free household, she prefers the peace & needs people who understand her boundaries. Wolfdog’s explore the world with their mouthes more than other dogs and Freya can be a little mouthy so needs someone who understands her boundaries and provide the consistency she needs.

She really just needs a calm household who have lots of time to help her settle and build her confidence. Ideally someone with lots of large breed experience. She’s a lovely dog and will make an incredible companion for the right family!

Freya loves being outdoors but is also happy to curl up on the sofa and snooze in the warm.
