Tess *Applications Not Yet Open*
Introducing Tess! This poor babies came to us after an urgent call from social services about the situation she and her pups were living in. When the call came in, the Social Services representative was truly desperate; every other charity they contacted was already full, and time was running out for Tess and her puppies. They needed to be rescued that very day. We were full past capacity at the time but of course we could never turn these sweethearts away, not just because they’re adorable (which they definitely are!) but because they were in such a dangerous situation.
After a few hours of urgent phone calls we managed to find a foster space for them with one of our incredible fosterers. Having so many puppies, especially so young, is already such a massive commitment but their willingness to take them the same day absolutely blew us away! We really don’t know what we’d do without our dedicated fosterers, they make such a difference to our amazing animals.
Having secured a space our team sprung into action, collecting the supplies needed for these dogs and reaching out to other charities to help secure spaces for the other four dogs on the property (who were taken by the incredible team at the RSPCA). We rushed to them as soon as we could, and despite having been warned we’re absolutely heartbroken by the situation we found them in. They were squeezed into a tiny dirty corridor surrounded by litter, the puppies themselves in a pile in a tiny little cardboard box. It really broke our hearts. This is when we had (yet another) surprise, despite having been called out for 6 puppies we found 9 tiny angels! Thankfully our fosterer agreed the more the merrier!
Tess was severely underweight, the strain of pregnancy and lactation without proper care having taken its toll on her body. She was dirty and had a cut on her head. She’s only 2 years old herself and is on her third home and second litter within six months. Despite enduring hardships most of us couldn’t even imagine from the day she was born, Tess truly is the sweetest girl. She has been an incredible mum. She’s so caring and is always making sure her very large litter is perfectly looked after (you’ll never catch these pups not thoroughly cleaned!). Even as exhausted as she was when we first met her, she instantly greeted us with wags and kisses, as if she knew we’d come for her. She was so ready to get in the car, and curled up and went to sleep in what is probably the cleanest safest place she’d been in months (my boot!). In her foster home she has settled wonderfully and is turning more and more into herself everyday. No longer is she scared to be inside the house, now she has a prime spot on the sofa! She loves a cuddle & we all agree that she’s definitely a lap dog! It’s like watching her age in reverse, she’s getting to be the puppy she never got to be herself and it is all thanks to the hard work of her loving foster family.
Tess has since struggled with her health, finding the immense strain of feeding her 9 puppies while already being underweight too much for her to handle. Unfortunately this lead to her developing mastitis and her pups being moved to hand-rear.
Since then Tess has finally had a chance to come into herself and you wouldn’t believe the difference it has made! Tess, after lots of treatment and TLC, has recovered and is now back to being a puppy herself! She’s full of bounce and wants to play all the time! She’s definitely a fan of long walks and would make an amazing companion for an active family.
She is the gentlest girl you could ask for and would be amazing in any family (except for one with cats!). Even when she was sore from the mastitis, she let her fosterers apply her medications and was so good letting them lay her down to check her belly. She just wants to be loved!
She needs a little longer to be spayed & recover (and put on a bit more weight!) before she can go to her forever family, but we are currently taking register of interest. So if you think you are her perfect home please fill in a dog adoption form or if you have any questions email us at hello@yorkshirerescue.org . Tess is waiting!
